---
Your **profile** is how you appear across Genesis — to collaborators on a shared project, in the
header and in the profile menu. **Security** is how you sign in: the email, the password, and an
optional second step.

Both are in your [account settings](/account/): **Settings → Profile** and **Settings →
Security**. They apply to your whole ESTAGE account, so a change here shows everywhere you sign
in with it.

## Changing your name and photo

1. Open **Settings → Profile**.
2. To change the photo, select the round avatar and choose an image. Use a square JPG, PNG or GIF
   of up to 5 MB.
3. Edit **First name** and **Last name**.
4. Select **Save profile**. The footer reads *"All changes saved."* once nothing is pending.

A new photo isn't stored until you save. **Remove photo** takes an already saved photo off right
away, and your initials show in its place.

## Changing your sign-in email

1. Open **Settings → Security**.
2. Next to **Sign-in email**, select **Change**.
3. Enter the address in **New email** and again in **Confirm new email**.
4. Enter your **Current password**.
5. Select **Update email**.
6. Open the confirmation email sent to the new address and select its link.

The new address takes effect only once you've confirmed it, and the link expires after an hour;
until then you keep signing in with the old one. ESTAGE also sends a notice to your current address
that a change was requested. The new
address must not already belong to another ESTAGE account, and it must differ from your current
one.

## Changing your password

1. Open **Settings → Security**.
2. Under **Change password**, enter your **Current password**.
3. Enter the new password in **New password** and **Confirm new password**. It needs at least 8
   characters.
4. Select **Update password**. The form confirms *"Password updated. Other devices signed in to your account were signed out."*

You stay signed in on the device you're using, and every other device is signed out. ESTAGE
emails you a notice that your password was changed.

If you enter the wrong current password several times, you have to wait a while before you can
try again.

## Turning on two-factor authentication

**Two-factor authentication** adds a second step when you sign in: after your password, ESTAGE
asks for a one-time code. There are two methods, and you can use either or both.

| Method | Where the code comes from |
| --- | --- |
| **Authenticator app** | Google Authenticator, 1Password, Authy or any other TOTP app |
| **Email code** | A one-time code sent to your sign-in email |

1. Open **Settings → Security**.
2. On the method you want, select **Enable**. You're taken to the ESTAGE sign-in service to finish
   the setup.
3. Back in Genesis, the method shows **Enabled**.

To turn a method off, select **Disable** on it; the same sign-in service asks you to confirm.

## Things worth knowing

- **Your sign-in email is not a mailbox.** Changing it doesn't touch any
[ESTAGE Mail](/domains/email/) mailbox, which has its own address and password.
- **Email code depends on your sign-in email.** If you change the email, the codes go to the new
  address.
