A **Live Chat** widget puts a real-time room on any page — visitors talk to each other live.
Great for events, communities, and alongside a [live stream](/live/) (that combo is a
[webinar](/live/#webinars--stream--chat-together)).

## How to trigger it

- *"add a live chat"*
- The **Live Chat** entry in the `/` slash menu

## What visitors get

1. **Join with a name + email** — no password, no account creation. The session survives
   page reloads.
2. The chat shows:
   - A live **"N online"** presence counter
   - **Message history** (the latest 150 messages render; the rest are kept)
   - A composer with an **emoji picker** and a 500-character limit
   - Auto-scroll pinned to the newest message
3. Their own messages are highlighted; a **Sign out** lets them rejoin under another name.

## Managing the room

Select the chat in the preview to see its panel: the room name and an **Open / Closed**
toggle. Close the room when the event's over — visitors see the chat as closed instead of an
empty room.

If the chat came from a [Syndicate block](/capabilities/syndicate/), the room is managed by
the block's publisher and your panel is read-only.

## Notes

- **One chat per page.** Different pages can each have their own room.
- The chat inherits your site's theme colors automatically.
- Honest limits: no moderation tools (mute/ban), no replies/threads, no file uploads, no
typing indicators, no message editing. It's a deliberately lightweight event chat.
