# Privacy and sharing a video

> Choose who can watch a video — public, private, only on your domains, behind a password, or by private link — and share or embed its player link.

---
Every video has a **player link** — the address of the video on the ESTAGE player. You send it,
embed it, or let Genesis place it on a page. The video's **Security** setting decides who can
actually watch through that link.

Set it on the video's page: open the video, then **Player Settings → Security → Visibility**, and
click **Save changes**.

## Visibility options

| Visibility | Who can watch |
| --- | --- |
| **Public** | Anyone with the link, on any site. New videos start here |
| **Private** | No one — the player shows **Private Video** instead of the video |
| **Specific Domains** | Only when the player is embedded on a site you list under **Allowed Domains** |
| **Password** | Anyone who enters the password you set |
| **Private Link** | Anyone with a separate, hard-to-guess link that ESTAGE generates |

### Specific Domains

1. Choose **Specific Domains**.
2. Under **Allowed Domains**, type a domain (for example `example.com`) and click **Add**. Add as
   many as you need.
3. Click **Save changes**.

On a site that isn't on the list, the player shows *To play your video here, change its privacy
settings so it can be embedded on:* followed by that site's domain. Opened directly in a browser
tab, the video shows **Private Video**.

:::note
The domain must match exactly what's in the browser's address bar. `www.example.com` and
`example.com` count as different domains — add both if your site answers on both.
:::

### Password

Choose **Password**, type the password and save. Viewers see an **Enter Password** box and a
**Watch** button; a wrong password shows **Password is incorrect.**

### Private Link

Choose **Private Link**. ESTAGE generates a **Private Video Link** right away; copy it with the
button next to it. Shared in a chat app, this link doesn't show the video's title or thumbnail
in the preview.

## Sharing the player link

Copy the link from the video card's **⋯ → Copy Player Link**, or from **General → Video Link**
on the video's page. A public link shared in social and chat apps shows the title and thumbnail,
and can play inline where the app supports it.

You can add options to the end of the link:

| Add to the link | Effect |
| --- | --- |
| `?autoplay=true` | Starts playing on load, muted (browsers only allow muted autoplay) |
| `?loop=true` | Plays again from the start when it ends |
| `?start_at=90` | Starts at that many seconds in |

Combine them with `&`, for example `?autoplay=true&loop=true`.

## Embedding a video

- **On a Genesis site**, use the [ESTAGE Video player](/video/player/) element —
you pick the video from your library, no link needed.
- **Anywhere else**, put the player link in an iframe or in the site's video-embed field. The
player fills the frame and keeps the video's shape.

## Things worth knowing

- **Visibility applies everywhere.** A private video shows **Private Video** on every site,
lesson and post that plays it. Genesis warns you when a video on your page is private.
- **Who can change it:** you, members of your team workspace, and people you've shared the
folder with as **Editor**. See [Teams and shared folders](/video/sharing/).
- **Sharing a folder is different from sharing a link.** Folder sharing lets other ESTAGE users
open your library to browse, watch or edit; the player link only lets someone watch one video.
