Server
The Server tab is where you choose and pay for the servers behind a Web app: the workspace the app runs on while you build it, and the machine your published site runs on, around the clock.
Find it under Settings → Server, in the Cloud & Publishing group. It appears only while you have a Web app open; in a project with several apps, it shows the servers of the app you’re in. A website, mobile app or desktop app has no Server tab.
What the tab shows
Section titled “What the tab shows”The header shows the workspace’s state: Running, Starting, Provisioning, Resizing or Not provisioned (nothing bought yet).
| Section | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Server hours | How many hours of workspace time are left, how many you’ve used, and when they refresh. |
| CPU and memory charts | CPU and memory of the server over the last 24 hours, refreshed every minute while the tab is open. |
| Published site machine | The size of the machine your live site runs on. |
| Serving instances | How many of those machines can serve your live site at once. |
| Workspace tiers | The workspace size — Pro, Scale, Power or Max. |
Server hours
Section titled “Server hours”The workspace isn’t rented by the month like the live site. Your package buys hours of use: the workspace sleeps after 20 minutes without activity and wakes when you come back, so only time you actually work counts.
When the hours run out, the workspace stops until they refresh. Your files, your published site and your domain aren’t affected.
Starting a server
Section titled “Starting a server”- Open Settings → Server in your Web app.
- On the Pro tier, select Choose.
- Pay in the checkout that opens. It starts the workspace and one serving instance for your live site, billed monthly.
Only the size that’s on sale can be bought — today that’s Pro (2 vCPU · 8 GB). The AI agent can’t switch your server to a size you haven’t bought; it tells you to buy it in Settings → Server.
A resize takes about 1–2 minutes. Your files and installed packages are kept.
Sizing the live site
Section titled “Sizing the live site”Your published site runs on its own machines, separate from the workspace, so a build in the workspace can never take the live site down. Pick a size under Published site machine and select Apply (or Add machine if the site isn’t published yet). Changing the size re-deploys the site without taking it offline.
| Size | Machine | Pick it when |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | 2 vCPU · 4 GB | Most sites start here — a marketing site, a portfolio, a blog, a small store. |
| Business | 4 vCPU · 8 GB | Steady traffic — a full catalog, a members area, pages that fetch a lot of data. |
| Scale | 8 vCPU · 16 GB | High, constant traffic, heavy pages, or an advertised launch. |
| Enterprise | 16 vCPU · 32 GB | Sustained heavy load or traffic spikes you can’t predict. |
Each card also says when it’s time to move up. The price is per instance, per month.
A site published before sizes existed keeps running on its original 0.5 vCPU · 2 GB machine. It keeps working; picking a size moves it and changes your bill.
Serving instances
Section titled “Serving instances”Serving instances sets how many machines your live site can scale to. One always runs; when traffic grows, more start automatically, up to the number you set (at most 10). Use − and +, then select Apply. Each instance is billed monthly.
When the server has been running hot, the tab suggests either a bigger size or another instance, with a button to apply it.
Cancelling the subscription
Section titled “Cancelling the subscription”- Select Cancel subscription at the bottom of the tab.
- Confirm in Cancel the Web app server?
The server keeps running until the end of the period you’ve paid for, then pauses. The remaining time isn’t refunded. Your files, your published site and your domain are kept, and you can resubscribe any time. Until the period ends, Keep my subscription (when it’s shown) takes the cancellation back.
If a payment fails
Section titled “If a payment fails”- Payment issue — your server is still running. Update your payment method; the banner says how many days are left before the server pauses.
- Server paused — payment lapsed. Resubscribe to bring it back with your data. The banner says how many days are left before the server is deleted.
Things worth knowing
Section titled “Things worth knowing”- Only the project owner can change the server. Size and instances are billed to the owner, so members whose role opens this tab see everything, with the controls turned off.
- Each Web app is its own subscription. A project with several Web apps pays for each one’s server separately.
- A Web app can’t be re-bound to another ESTAGE project — see Web apps.
